Life Needs to Be Expressed Not Mimicked

Life Needs to Be Expressed Not Mimicked
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh
How many things are you afraid of? We are so afraid of failure, that we are not even close to success. We are so afraid of death, that we are not even living. We have been conditioned to believe that when we don't do things the so called right way, we are considered a failure. Who's perception is this? What memory are we keeping alive? What belief is holding us back? This perception comes from others telling us that we are failures, and us believing it to be true. And when fear grips us, we are no longer sure about anything. We are confused and stagnant. We can no longer relate to peace.

How much is your daily agenda tied to this illusive fear force and how much is tied to the God force? Life comes with no fear. Everything else is an add on, like the things you have collected and gathered over time. This collection and gathering of things, whether it may be knowledge, education, social conditioning, etc, does not represent the true statement of existence. All of these things are not yours, so why are you holding onto them? Don't get caught up in the dreams and nightmares of this time and space reality.

Life is about allowing and acceptance. It is not about controlling it. Your instrument needs to be played. This breath needs to flow. This is its nature. Just as a lily in the field grows without toiling. Life is not about where you want to be, it is about where you are right now.

Therefore, ask yourself, are you expressing, or are you mimicking?

Let the Stallion Kick and Run

Let the Stallion Kick and Run
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh
I have made a lot of bad choices in my life, and how I pay for them has been through regret and forgiveness. Maybe one day I can share with you some of the bad choices, but today it really doesn't matter what the situations have been. They are past and gone and there is no way to change those choices that I made yesterday. My healing process has done wonders but there is always some black residue hiding somewhere deep in the heart, that I stuffed so far down, I didn't ever recognize it anymore when it came up.

Some days like today, some thing strange happens. Out of the blue, when things seem sunny and well, I get overwhelmed with emotion and I have no clue where it comes from. It slams you in the gut, bubbles up to your throat and takes over your entire body. And here comes the trembling, the weak knees and tears. I want to fall to my knees and pray to God to take away the burden, the hurt and the pain off my shoulders because I just can't carry it anymore. And I do when I am at home but I was on my early morning walk today. Not good timing! Of course I tried to contain myself. Maybe somebody's looking. Ooh, what would they think. It's so easy to get stuck in the head and tell myself "I shouldn't feel this way. Everything was just fine a minute ago. So what's my problem."

So what did I do? I centered myself. I looked straight ahead into the center of my mind's eye and allowed the feelings to kick and run like a stallion throughout my body. What I would have given for a chair at this moment. I knew I would be safe and to make sure I didn't fall I paid full attention to my breath. If I didn't allow these feelings to pass I would have buried them again and I would have been approached yet another time probably when I least expected it too. So the best thing to do was to let it go and let God.

Healing takes patience and it sometimes doesn't present itself in the most appropriate times. Healing also takes time. It's a good thing, too, because if we were able to heal the whole smackeroo right here and right now, I think our brains would explode into oblivion. We couldn't handle it. We would be on emotion overload for weeks or better yet, months. We are given only what we can handle at the time and I recognize that and I thank God for that.

What is beautiful about every step of the healing process, though, is that I gain a ton of strength, resilience and courage to move through any crap or fear that comes my way during the day, because if I can handle the pain that comes up I can handle anything!

And one more important note to sign off on. Be conscious of the choices you make and remember the choices you make today will effect you tomorrow.

Energy Expressed

"Energy needs work, otherwise the energy will become restlessness. Energy needs expression, energy needs to be creative. Otherwise the same energy, coiled up within you, will become diseased, an illness." ~Osho.

There is a difference between action and activity, as Osho states in his book, Creativity: Unleashing the Force Within. We keep ourselves sooo busy with activity that when spirit calls upon us to act, we are too tired from constantly running away from our energy source through the activity we do. We are too goal-oriented. The goal is always somewhere else to be achieved. Somehow this goal, this thing has to be done and we have to reach to the goal, and only then will we be able to relax. But with this attitude the goal is never reached, because the energy goes on changing every moment into something else, into the future. The goal always remains on the horizon. You go on running but the distance remains the same.

Consider the lilies of the field, they toil not. Enjoy this very moment, the Power of the Presence of awareness. As Tilopa states, "Do nought with the body but relax." And what does this mean? It is a state where your energy is not moving --not to the future and not to the past. It is simply there with you. Time stops--this moment is all. You simply enjoy it and realize everything is extraordinary. And this is where you have power. And this is where spirit arises. Only until you slow down is when you will hear the voice of spirit talk to you, and know your action for your highest good. Your energy will then be expressed!

Awareness Without Trying To Change Things

Awareness Without Trying To Change Things
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh

When you take care of your Self by keeping in touch with your Inner Power your body and mind begin to take care of themselves naturally. There is no longer anything to fix or change to make things better. The mind begins to heal and the body begins to restore itself.

What are your beliefs around this subject matter? Do you take care of your self more on the physical plain or exterior perspective, hoping that this way will give you the joy and fulfillment you yearn for? Or "can your superficial mind be so alert during the day that it is aware of the unconscious motives, the glimpses of things that are hidden, without trying to suppress them, change them, or do something about them?" (J. Krishnamurati).

I believe our minds are so occupied during the day with our job, the economy, children, lovers, money, errands, neighbors, quarrels, grudges, urges, the past and the future, and many other things, which 'some' are necessary to function in this world, but where's the limit? And, while we are completely occupied with them all, we are thinking of ways "to suppress them, change them, or do something about them." We are in a constant state of pushing or resisting. A constant up-stream flow that creates dis-ease and dis-harmony. When do we finally unplug the circuit to this physical life and get connected with our life force that gives us breadth, that gives us freedom, and that gives us the joy of spontaneity?

Freedom will only come by being 'in touch' from within. By being 'aware' of various thoughts and motives that arise, and viewing them without judgment, criticism, and condemnation, we become free of all conditioning. When we are aware, our mind is in a state of quiet, all day, on and off, we are no longer pushing or resisting. The past is being shed. There is no longer a struggle. By being free, the mind is capable of penetrating deeper finding a newness, and the unlimited.

Make Peace With The Present Moment

Make Peace With The Present Moment
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh

Make peace with the present moment.
Be friendly with the present moment.
Be accepting of what is first,
before you can begin things to change.
Once you are accepting,
you are empowered by inspired action,
action with the Power of Presence,
which is Truth and Love,
by Life itself.

The Power of Choice is Yours.

Love Is Like a Resting Place

Love Is Like a Resting Place
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh
"Perhaps love is like a resting place, a shelter from the storm.
It exists to give you comfort, it is there to keep you warm,
And in those times of trouble, when you are most alone,
the memory of love will bring you home."

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh

Life may appear to be dark and against you but it really is not. Rev Micheal Bernard Beckwith states that 'darkness' can show up in three different levels.

1. In Gestation.
When you begin to receive and accept new ideas, the new idea begins to gestate. The idea is planted, just as a seed is planted, and begins to take form. And just as a seed need the dark to germinate, so does the idea.

2. Darkness that comes from deep cleansing.
This does not mean that we need to be cleansed because we are dark and dirty or full of sin. It is such that what we, at one time, identified ourselves with, that which we thought we were, we realize it was never us at all. This identity loses its power and begins to weaken. During this time we get confused because we are no longer who we thought we were.

3. The ego is temporarily blinded.
Through insight, revelation and realization, the ego gets temporarily blinded. It is not that the old is adjusting, it is the new you taking over. When you get flooded by the light, you go blind. The light blinds the old identity. Your eyes need time to adjust.

So don't be afraid of the dark. It is there to serve you and serve you well!

STOP Planning Your Life to the "T"

STOP Planning Your Life to the "T"
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh

I truly believe that too many of us are looking for a destination rather than direction. We manage and plan our life down to the minute. We set goals daily, monthly and yearly and leave no spontaneity, adventure or fun to the 'not knowing'. Unconsciously our destination is planned by the past; the experiences and knowledge of the past. We just do a bit of repainting and renovating.

When we live for a destination, planning our life to the 'T', what room is left to feel vibrant? What room is left to feel the pulsation of this moment that is created now? What room is left to feel the totality in the dance of life? The passion, the exhilaration, the take my breath-away sensuality of being alive!

There is beauty and freshness in the unborn, the uncertainty, in the not knowing. Direction belongs to being. It is subtle, delicate and fragile. And to know this is only to feel it.

"To move in the world of direction one needs tremendous trust, because one is moving in insecurity, one is moving in darkness. But the darkness has a thrill in it: without any map , without any guide, you are moving into the unknown. Each step is a discovery, and it is not only a discovery of the outside world. Simultaneously, something is discovered in you also. Each discovery is an inner discovery...Go on your own. Move into the vast, into the infinite and learn to trust it. Leave yourself in the hands of life. The man who trusts, the man who is thrilled even at the gate of death -- he can give a lion's roar." ~Osho

TIME, Waste Not

TIME, Waste Not
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh
Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening it deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.

What do you do? Draw out every cent, of course!!!

Each of us has such a bank.
It's name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,000 seconds.
Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for you.
Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours.
There is no going back.
There is no drawing against the "tomorrow".
You must live in the present on today's deposits.
Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success!
The clock is running.
Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR
Ask a student who has failed a grade.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH
Ask a mother who has given birth to a pre-mature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE DAY
Ask a daily wage laborer who has kids to feed.

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE
Ask a person who has missed the train.

To realize the value of ONE SECOND
Ask a person who has avoided an accident.

To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND
Ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have!
And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special,
Special enough to have your time... and remember time waits for no one...

Today, I Am Going to Take Action

"Everyday, think as you wake up. Today, I am fortunate to have woken up, I am alive, I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it, I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am not going to get angry, or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."
~Quote from H.H. the XIVth Dalai Lama.

Be Attentive Where You Place Your Energy

Be Attentive Where You Place Your Energy
Wake Up to Live with Desiree Leigh
I was enjoying my morning yoga class when Todd, the instructor, said to us, "Where your energy goes, the energy will come back where you put it." At the time the entire class was holding a position when he made this statement. It totally made sense but this time I had something to compare this statement to.

When he said this statement, I initially thought of my muscles as well as the position. Where I place the energy, meaning, where I place my attention to strengthen a particular muscle or position, the energy will come back to me in that area. This also means that I will get better in holding that position and gain more strength or energy in that area, and be able to be better at doing the things I like to do, like hiking, swimming or even lifting the grocery bags. That makes total sense. When you're working out doing strength training with weights, practicing dance, training for a marathon, or practicing a guitar, your energy in that particular area will become more fine-tuned and perfected in that area. Because you are directing your energy to a particular area that is where it will go.

But Todd's statement also works for thought and feeling energy. What you constantly think about and feel, will always come back to you, too. It is not just restricted to strength or any other training I mentioned. This law pertains to everything. On a subatomic level we are all energy, and on an intellectual level scientists have proven this. So why do we continue to think the same thoughts and feel the same feelings, especially when they are negative? Because it's a habit, that's it. A conditioned habit that must be changed. There is no complicated reason behind being unconscious to what we do. It is the way it has been done for years. We never questioned things; we always followed. Following is also an easy way to be accepted and an easy way to get approval from a society of conformists. "Just do what I say and I won't condemn or judge you." "Be a good girl and a good boy and everything will be okay." "Don't go against my advice (my conditioned beliefs) because I don't want to do something drastic." Society wants you to behave a certain way (their way), so that they can feel good about themselves, and have control. If you don't, they get disappointed or angered because it is against their conditioned belief system or control system.

Have you had enough of conforming? Are you ready for change? Only until you choose to change will your environment around you change.
